Artist in Resident- Denise Winter

Agder Kunstsenter are happy to welcome Denise Winter to our Artist in Residency!

Denise Winter studied fine art at the Dresden University of Fine Arts, where she also completed her postgraduate studies (both under Monika Brandmeier). In 2008, she spent a year at the Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo (under A. K. Dolven, Oslo National Academy of the Arts). Parallel to her studies in Dresden, Denise Winter studied fine arts at the Dusseldorf Art Academy (under Richard Deacon) and art history at the Ruhr University in Bochum.

«The architectural space, the texture of walls and floors, the humidity, experiences of built structures or (urban) landscapes and the influence they have on people and their habits: these are the things that interest me and inspire my work. I observe, photograph, write texts. I reduce and condense, use digital and analogue media and very different materials, and find precise positions in space.
In Kristiansand, I photograph the hard edges of the architecture against the sunlight and the holes in the ground of the rock. Gaps and cracks. I type texts on a typewriter and think about how everything can come together. Parts and templates emerge that can be described. They are intermediate pieces and sketches for a new book, which will also incorporate Braille.”
