About us
The Artist in residency in Kristiansand, Norway, is open year-round, providing professional visual artists much-needed space and time to work on a project of their choice. AiR-Kristiansand is run by Agder Center of Contemporary Art, on behalf of the Municipality of Kristiansand. The applications are reviewed by an art committee whose efforts ensure that a broad range of artistic styles and national origins is represented.
This year we urge artist who work with printing techniques to apply
Applicants who work with printing mediums will receive priority in recognition of Fellesverkstedet Myren Grafikk´s 50 year jubilee in 2025!

A private studio inside the AiR-apartment is simpley equipped with a work desk, office chair, ample wall space, and both natural and artificial lighting

Who can apply
Professional visual artists from Norway and abroad. The applicant must have completed a Bachelor degree or a Master degree at an approved Art College or Art Academy.
Fees
Our apartment is rent-free. All expenses related to electricity and internet are also covered by Kristiansand municipality. There are no general funds/scholarships linked to AiR-Kristiansand accept from the Cultural Rucksack program.
Each applicant is responsible for their own funding. The residency is self-catered (artists have to cover all expenses, such as living costs, travel, materials, insurance and transport). We encourage all applicants to apply for funding in their home countries.
Expectations towards the artist
We encourage Artists to hold Artist-talks and host studio visits, but we respect that not all artists will want to host studio visits and/or show what they have produced, therefore this is handled on an individual basis. If you have specific requests please feel free to include it in your project proposal.
Please have the following information ready before you start your application process
- Short project summary (max 500 characters) and an extended project description/ intension of your residency (max 1 A4-page/6000 characters)
- Documentation (max 8 low res pic/illustrations combined in a PDF)
- CV
- Portrait (press photo)
