Artist in Resident- Erica Giacomazzi
Erica Giacomazzi developed her artistic practice during her Bachelor’s studies at the Academy of Fine Art in Venice (Italy), where she worked with the context-sensitive scenario of the Lagoon through performances and installations with a peak interest in video art. Erica has exhibited in Venice, Treviso, Florence, cultural events, public spaces, and recently in Germany and Sweden. She has been involved in multidisciplinary art contexts, e.g. collaborating with scientists, musicians, artists, theatre company, cinema troupes, graphics, animators and web designers.
Erica is currently managing the public art project by Oscar Properties Art Foundation residency in Stockholm and has developed new exhibition curatorial projects. She completed her art studies in Umeå (Sweden). Experiencing the north Swedish landscape – the artist investigates the adaptable approach of the human being in the wild. Erica’s expression often talks about the variable possibilities of movement through the landscape through its respective seasons, mediums and fragility. The collective memory linked to the topography and the historical and cultural heritage of circumscribed places plays a pivotal interpretation in her site-specific works. She works mainly related to aquatic habitats and the humans behave concerning it. Influenced by the seasons the waterways take the role of streets, the islands become monuments, and the water stretches become large squares shaping the human approach to it. The artist envisions site-specific outdoor art production based on social and interdisciplinary engagement with nature, as functional and empowering as possible through a self-questioning approach, environmental consciousness, and local/global interactions. She is working mainly with experimental film documentaries, site-specific interactive insallations and video installations with a close-up on soundtracks, as different edited channels, or as raw environmental recordings.

DKS- Project:
During her say Erica has through den kulturelle skolesekken (DKS), engaged students from lower secondary school (8th and 9th graders) in creating an interactive, temporary art installation that explored the water landscapes and memories of Kristiansand. Through their unique perspectives, they designed floating artworks that represent their connection to the city’s waterways.
Each day, new locations of these floating installations were revealed, and you can scan the QR codes on them to unlock stories about Kristiansand from the students’ viewpoint. With 60 pieces created by 8 classes, these artworks invite the people to take part and rediscover the city in a fresh and imaginative way.
The project culminated in a weekend celebration when the students collect their works, reflecting on the journey and the possibility of future projects for the community next summer.
